Kevin Weiss, MD, MPH



Kevin Weiss, MDDr. Weiss serves as the Director of the Institute for Healthcare Studies, and co-Director of the Institute for Health Services and Policy Institute at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, in Chicago, Illinois. He is Professor of Medicine, in the Division of General Medicine at Northwestern University.  He also directs the Midwest Center for Health Services and Policy Research located at Hines and Chicago Veterans Administration Medical Centers.  Dr. Weiss has worked extensively in the field of epidemiology of asthma, the problem of inner-city asthma, optimal use of asthma guidelines in primary care, and the health economics of asthma care. His work has included initiating the NIAID National Cooperative Inner-City Asthma Study (NCICAS), being Principal Investigator on the AHRQ sponsored Pediatric Asthma Care Patient Outcomes Research Team (PAC-PORT), and most recently the NHBLI sponsored Chicago Initiative to Raise Asthma Health Equity (CHIRAHe).  Dr. Weiss has served on the NHBLI/NAEPP’s Expert Panel on Asthma Guidelines and currently Chairs the NAEPP Guideline Implementation Panel for the upcoming asthma guideline revision. He chairs the Asthma Measure Advisory Panel (MAP) for the National Committee on Quality Assurance.  He has chaired federally sponsored national workshops on asthma clinical care, and asthma disparities.  He has published over 100 articles, chapters, books, and monographs on asthma and chronic obstructive respiratory disease.  Dr. Weiss is a member of the Merck Childhood Asthma Network's National Advisory Board.
