Herman E. Mitchell, Ph.D.

Dr. Mitchell is a Senior Research Scientist at Rho Federal Systems Division and an Adjunct Professor of Biostatistics, at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health. Over the past 16 years, Dr. Mitchell has served as Principal Investigator of the Statistical and Clinical Coordinating Center for three major multi-center studies of asthma among children in the inner city funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Mitchell has also served as Principal Investigator of the Coordinating Center for the National Institute of Aging Trial of a Cognitive Intervention for Older Adults, a multi-center intervention to maintaining cognitive functioning of at-risk older adults. He has more 25 years experience working in wide-ranging public health research areas including studies of Thyroid Cancer among children exposed to the Chernobyl accident in Belarus and Ukraine and was an investigator in the earliest studies of HIV-AIDS and Cardiovascular procedures such as Angioplasty and Implantable Ventricular Assist Devices. Dr. Mitchell is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Institute of Medicine Committee on Indoor Air Quality and Asthma, the American Public Health Association, and the Society for Clinical Trials.
