Dr. Leona E. Markson is Executive Director and Franchise Outcomes Research (OR) Head for Vaccines in Global OR, Reimbursement and Health Technology Assessment at Merck & Co., Inc.  Dr. Markson joined Merck in 1995 as Director, Outcomes Research and Management and has had assignments with increasing responsibility since that time.  For almost 12 years, Dr. Markson has been overseeing OR support for a broad portfolio of clinical areas at Merck including: respiratory, cardiovascular, neuroscience, diabetes, HIV, osteoporosis and vaccines.
 
Prior to joining Merck, Dr. Markson was Research Associate Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of Clinical Outcomes Research at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.  Dr. Markson also has past work experience with federal, state and local government health agencies, as well as field experience with the American Cancer Society.  Dr. Markson received her Master of Health Science (MHS) and Doctor of Science (ScD) degrees from Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.  She has coauthored over eighty peer-reviewed publications and was editor of a book entitled: Accountability and Quality in Health Care: The New Responsibility.  She has served on grant review committees of federal health agencies and has served on several advisory committees on health policy concerns.  Dr. Markson is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Disease Management Association of America and is on the editorial board of Disease Management & Health Outcomes. She is currently a member of the ISPOR Institutional Council and a Senior Scholar in the Department of Health Policy at Jefferson Medical College.
